\u201cThe Old Polypore Mushroom is the voice of an old, natural, biologically valuable forest, through whose stories the entire story of the forest is revealed \u2013 how it was formed, its structure, its inhabitants and their interactions, how the forest feels, and how it views our \u2013 human \u2013 actions. This is an unusual and exciting format for talking about nature \u2013 dynamic stories that capture attention with attractive characters and humor. The complex aspects of a biologically valuable ecosystem are presented simply and clearly, without losing scientific foundation. Leading nature experts from the Nature Conservation Agency participated in the development of the short films,\u201d says Andris \u0160irovs, Acting Director General of the Nature Conservation Agency of Latvia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Nature Conservation Agency invites educational institutions to use \u201cStories of Old Polypore Mushroom\u201d as supplementary materials in the learning process, to promote understanding of the interconnected web of life in the forest in an engaging way.<\/p>\n

The series consists of ten short films, each approximately two minutes long, on useful topics:<\/p>\n

  1. \u201cThe Interconnected Life of the Forest\u201d: about the interconnected life of the forest and the large web of life \u2013 the ecosystem of a biologically valuable forest;<\/li>\n
  2. \u201cWhat is a Forest?\u201d: about forest structure;<\/li>\n
  3. \u201cThe Beginning\u201d: about how a forest forms and how long it takes;<\/li>\n
  4. \u201cThe Big Ones\u201d: about the giants of the forest \u2013 large trees and their importance in the forest ecosystem;<\/li>\n
  5. \u201cThe Small Ones\u201d: about insects, lichens, mosses, fungi, bacteria, and other \u201csmall\u201d inhabitants of the forest;<\/li>\n
  6. \u201cThe Fallen Ones\u201d: about the importance and irreplaceable role of fallen trees in a biologically diverse forest ecosystem;<\/li>\n
  7. \u201cRhythm\u201d: about the processes in the forest throughout the year;<\/li>\n
  8. \u201cHuman\u201d: about human impact on the forest and balanced coexistence;<\/li>\n
  9. \u201cThe Chessboard\u201d: about forest fragmentation and its impact on biodiversity;<\/li>\n
  10. \u201cThe Forest after 100 Years\u201d: how the forest will develop.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \"\"<\/p>\n

    \u201cStories of Old Polypore Mushroom\u201d were created in collaboration with the agency \u201cWKND,\u201d which transformed scientific information into an attractive, social media-friendly, and attention-grabbing format. The script for the films was written by Liene Brizga-Kalni\u0146a, and the films were developed with the participation of LatViaNature project experts from the Nature Conservation Agency \u2013 Linda Uzule, Sandra Ikauniece, Ivars Leimanis, \u0122irts Baranovskis, Ieva Saleniece, and Anda Zakenfelde.<\/p>\n

    The short films \u201cStories of Old Polypore Mushroom\u201d were made within the LIFE program project LatViaNature, implemented by the Nature Conservation Agency, involving 10 partners \u2013 the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, the University of Latvia, Daugavpils University, the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies, and Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences, as well as the Latvian Rural Advisory and Training Centre, AS \u201cLatvijas valsts me\u017ei\u201d (Latvian State Forests), the Latvian Fund for Nature, and the World Wildlife Fund.
