Europe\u2019s forests are under threat from economic pressures, climate change, habitat destruction, and unsustainable development. Experts gathered to explore ways to restore forests in Europe. The Platform meeting provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge, insights, and experiences in implementing the EU Nature Restoration Regulation and the EU Forest Strategy 2030.<\/p>\n

The three-day meeting brought together 38 LIFE Programme projects from 17 European countries, as well as from the United Kingdom and Serbia \u2013 experts, researchers, NGOs, and representatives of competent authorities. The meeting was organised by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency and the European Commission\u2019s Directorate-General for the Environment.<\/p>\n

LatViaNature was represented at the Platform meeting by \u0122irts Baranovskis, Head of the Compensation Department, who, in an expert working group on forest restoration financing, introduced an innovative approach in Latvia for promoting biodiversity in forests \u2013 the implementation of the Living Forest pilot programme for private landowners, aimed at voluntarily enhancing biodiversity outside protected nature areas.<\/p>\n

The pilot programme is a new voluntary cooperation model in Latvia with private landowners, aiming to promote biodiversity in private forests outside protected areas. Landowners participating in the programme voluntarily commit to improving biodiversity on their properties.<\/p>\n

The programme offers not only individual consultations from nature experts, but also result-based financial support linked to achievements in preserving nature values.<\/p>\n
