The meeting brought together more than 100 representatives of LIFE projects and nature conservation authorities. LatViaNature’s presentation focused on voluntary cooperation with forest owners in Latvia through the “Living Forest” pilot programme. Experiences shared by projects from other countries provided examples of how to engage landowners and local communities at an early stage in the planning and implementation of nature restoration measures.
During field visits and workshops, participants learned about measures implemented in Estonia to restore rivers, mires, grasslands and other habitats. They also discussed citizen-based environmental monitoring, nature-based solutions and public communication.
LatViaNature representatives had the opportunity to discuss current project implementation matters with LIFE project monitors.
Representatives of the European Commission and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) provided updates on the implementation of the Nature Restoration Regulation and other developments, including the future funding of the LIFE Programme.
