Conference to address challenges and solutions in invasive species management in Latvia

The University of Latvia, the Nature Conservation Agency, the LatViaNature project, and Daugavpils University invite interested participants to attend the conference “What to do about invasive species in Latvia? Challenges. Experience. Solutions.” The event will take place in Riga at the University of Latvia’s Academic Centre (Jelgavas Street 1, Room 702) on 6 February 2026, from 10:30 to 16:00, and will also be available online.

Invasive species are one of the most significant threats to biodiversity, ecosystem services, agriculture, and human economic activity. They cause both ecological and economic damage, making effective, integrated, and adaptive management of invasive species a key prerequisite for the conservation and restoration of ecosystems.

The conference will address various aspects of invasive species management—from early detection and targeted control to habitat restoration and long-term monitoring—highlighting solutions tailored to Latvia’s conditions and available resources.

Conference objectives:

  • To promote cooperation among stakeholders involved in invasive species management;
  • To share experience and practical examples;
  • To identify common directions for strengthening invasive species control solutions in Latvia.
